Though not strictly alike, Project Sabotage has a plot related to Project Inferno. It carries through some of the previous characters like FBI agent Max Smart and The General of China. There are also many new characters to flesh out the cast. Project Sabotage is an entirely new nefarious attack on America with a surprising twist on technology. In this second novel of the Infiltration Series, the Chinese bad actors develop small robots that can be released into high technology businesses to cause destruction and massive havoc. The theme again is using a seemingly normal object to bypass suspicion and enable devastating attacks on computers and networks.
The Chinese are the bad guys in this scenario because they have the technical knowledge in robotics, AI, etc., and they have the mass production capabilities to produce the weapons. They also are highly motivated to interfere with American businesses to gain a competitive edge.
The plot takes place in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 epidemic, which is essential background for the story. The epidemic impacts many aspects of the story including interference with the investigations and causing distraction concerning the origin of the attacks.
The story is set in Silicon Valley because that region is a rich source of targets for this plot. The companies are fictional of course, but you will undoubtedly recognize similarities to actual companies, possibly companies where you work.
